Read my Play by Sephora Reviews to see if this is for you.
So lately, I’ve been on this journey to discover more beauty and skincare brands that work for my skin. However, on a student budget, buying full-size products often can get a little draining for my account.
So I decided to get back into makeup subscription boxes. I know it says makeup but these little boxes have both skincare, makeup, and even perfume sometimes. So here is a little Play by Sephora Reviews.
This is a post of my Play by Sephora Reviews but if you just want to see what I got in the box, check out my youtube video. especially if you prefer watching over reading.
Clinique Almost Lipstick in black honey
One of the first items in the box is this clinique almost lipstick in the color black honey. I must say I was a little disappointed in this. I usually love lipstick products as its one of the first things I’ve ever tried. My mom was always buying them though, not me. I was too broke lol.
Anyways the reason I was disappointed is that this lipstick had no color. I guess that’s why they called it almost lipstick. The info paper says that it’s supposed to be a sheer color. So maybe that’s why. Right now I’m jsut using it as a lip balm since it doesn’t show any color.
Verdict: I would not recommend it.
Kat Von D lock it setting powder
I actually have another of this that i got a long time ago and never used it. When I wear makeup I don’t often use a setting powder. I was scared to use this powder cause it looked very beige or white. I was afraid it would give me that ashy look.
This powder is translucent so when you wipe it away, it leaves a flawless matte look. No ashiness behind it. I have been using it every time I wear makeup now and I must say I am loving it.
Verdict: I would definitely buy it again if it wasn’t a little expensive.
Fresh Lotus youth preserve moisturizer
The good thing about this lotion is that it is so creamy. I used it every night for about a week. I didn’t really see any difference but don’t let that discourage you from buying it. It’s supposed to combat dryness and aging skin. I’m in my early twenties with really oily skin so I guess i wasn’t in it’s demographic, which is fine.
I think the main reason I didn’t notice any difference is because my skin has been pretty clear lately from using the ordinary serums. This cream also smells a bit like carrot, weird I know. But It’s a fresh natural smell, If you don’t like that kind of thing then maybe it’s not for you.
Verdict: I do recommend trying it if you have dry and aging skin. It does have 4 stars on Amazon.
Check out my ordinary skincare products review for acne. This routine actually saved my skin so totally check it out if you’re in the search for clear skin.
Philosophy purity made simple
I’ll be quick with this one. I didn’t really like it. However, I think that more because of how I like my cleansers. This was a very light cleanser and it didn’t foam at all.
Every time I used it, it felt as if my skin wasn’t actually washed. I always wanted to go back and washed my face with something else.
Verdict: I definitely would not buy it again.
Clinique Blackhead Solutions 7 day deep cleanse and scrub
So I have a love for gentle exfoliators and this one, whoo it made my heart jumped. I really enjoyed using this cleanser. It was the right kind of foamy and gently exfoliated my skin. It left my skin so soft and cleaned each time I used it. As someone with oily skin, this was a dream come true.
The only negative thing I would say about it is that it had this weird chemical smell but I quickly got over that.
Verdict: I would totally buy it again.
Bonus product: Verb Ghost oil
I actually didn’t really give this oil much chance. It did say it was for all hair types but I don’t trust everything with my hair. It also broke once I opened it so I had very little left to use. It came in a very tiny, minuscule, little bottle and I have a very big head of hair so I don’t think it was going to do much.
To be honest, I was hoping the bonus item was going to be a perfume so I think that already made me a little bias against the oil. I’ll tell you this though, It does have over 4.5 stars on Amazon so it might be worth a try.
Verdict: I wouldn’t buy it again since I didn’t really get to use it.
My thoughts on this month’s box: I have to say this month wasn’t my favorite. Only 2 out of the 6 items were useful to me so that wasn’t much. I’m hoping next month will be better and if not, I’ll probably cancel it.
If you are into makeup and don’t know where to start, I would definitely recommend trying out a makeup subscription box. Usually, the play by Sephora has great products but there are others like ipsy or boxycharm.
Come back next month if you want to see what I get in my next Play! by Sephora box if you need more time to make a decision.
